SAN DIEGO – 08 April 2025 - General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) announced today that Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS gratefully accepted the Navy League of the United States’ Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award during an award presentation held at the Sea Air Space 2025 conference in National Harbor, MD. The Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award honors a leader of industry who has made a major contribution to the nation’s maritime strength or enhanced national security.
A committee appointed by the National President of the Navy League selected Mr. Forney as the recipient of this year’s award from a field of nominated civilian leaders that best exemplifies the leadership, statesmanship and dedication to the nation that was exhibited by the award’s namesake, Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz.
Since joining General Atomics in 2007, Mr. Forney has forged a path of rapid innovation to advance a portfolio of transformational technologies and products supporting naval warfare and national security. In close collaboration with the U.S. Navy, GA-EMS developed and implemented the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) to provide greater efficiency and enhanced operational capabilities for the Ford-class aircraft carriers. The company is also spearheading development of high-energy laser weapons, hypersonics, advanced sensors, and space systems and satellites that will help redefine engagement in a multi-domain battlespace.
Mr. Forney has guided the company’s investment in its infrastructure and personnel to establish a modern Manufacturing Center of Excellence in Tupelo, MS, contributing to a more resilient domestic industrial base with capabilities to support a range of naval projects, including the design and manufacture of critical components for Virginia and Columbia-class submarines.
